After a night with heavy rain and thunderstorms we went to Kingscanyon. Everything is like always very expensive. But there is a washing-machine and the Thirsty Dingo Bar where they serve a bushman-pizza made from kangaroo, crocodile and camel, we like it very much.
At the gas-station we asked for the permit to drive the Mereenie road which is a dirt track leading into the MacDonnell-Ranges. It’s closed due to floating rivers. They advised us to come next day again. But there was rain in the night. So it was still closed.
We used the day to hike around in the Kingscanyon. This was in one month the second hot day, so we drank a lot of water. We also joined the nice landscape, waterfalls waterholes, cliffs and some plants like a so called palmfern, which grows like a fern but looks like a palm.
The next day we tried a third time to get the permission, but the road was still closed.
We headed East than to the Ernest Giles Road, which brings us via Henbury and meteorit craters to Alice Springs. Even on this road we found a deep river to cross fortunately we decided to camp before the river. The next day we hope for an easier passage…
Yes this morning the depth of the river was significant below the distributor, so we could easily pass the furt.
We headed to the Stuart Hwy and stood overnight at a nice spot at the Finke river, which is longest river in Australia but only temporarily floating.
On our way to Alice Springs we found by chance a dirt road leading North. But it was closed due to flooding, but anyway we decided next morning to try that way.
This 50 km were really nice and we always found a way through the rivers without bogging in the water and also without stucking in the sand. So we arrived in Alice Springs and found a affordable campground.
Now our Toyota needs some attention like oil-change and other services. That’s what we have to do this Monday in AS.
